No hot teen trend is really successful until Lifetime makes a scare movie about it. When The Choking Game airs on Aug. 23, mass pass-out-game hysteria will get its time in the spotlight. PC Game Pass is a separate service, owing to the fact that PC games on Windows don't have a paywall to play online multiplayer. Also many of the games here are simply fully exclusive to PC, designed to be played with a keyboard and mouse, although many of the games here also support Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning you can take your save file with you whether you're playing on a PC, an Xbox, or on a mobile device via cloud. Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a dangerous behavior of children and teenagers who harm themselves without intending to commit suicide. The most common form of self-injury is cutting; other forms include self-inflicted burns, bites, hair-pulling, and hitting. [1] Overall, 15-25% of teenagers have reported non-suicidal cutting behavior. [2] In addition to teenagers, self-harm has been reported in 8% of third graders (ages 8 and 9). [1] One study surveyed one hundred and ninety-six patients under the age of 6 who were referred for neurodevelopmental evaluations at a pediatric clinic. Thirty-two percent of the children surveyed had harmed themselves within the past month. The frequency of self-harm varied from less than once per month, to more than once per hour; 1 to 6 times per week was the most frequently reported interval of self-harm. [3] Girls are at a much higher risk of cutting behaviors, up to three times as high as that of young boys. [1]
In 2014, the program—which consists of a 8-minute video and PowerPoint presentation—was adopted for the first time by the Iron County School District in Utah after four children in the district died from playing the Choking Game in a three-year period. Two of the deaths in 2011 were weeks apart. All four children had played the game alone, according to Cedar City police detective Mike Bleak, who was involved in the investigations and urged school leaders to implement Rogg’s program. “It breaks my heart to have to investigate dead kids,” he says. “If I could prevent that, I’m in.” Game titles, number, features and availability vary over time and by region, platform, console and Game Pass plan. Choking Game players are more likely to be found with their feet or knees on the ground. Investigators might also look for previous markings on the top of bedframes to see whether the Choking Game has been played before. When discussing the dangers of self-induced choking with youth, it helps to refer to it as a “strangulation activity” rather than a “game.” It’s fine to call it what the kids call it at the outset to make sure they understand what you are talking about but then the language needs to become less conversational to drive home how serious an issue this is and just how harmful these practices can be.
