About this deal

Shane O'Reilly of Inland Fisheries Ireland with Irish Fly-tier Peter Kealey at the launch of the publication of the 1902 Cork Fly Collection A forum to discuss casting techniques and events. For the angler wishing to increase his distance and the tournament caster. That is some drive for you from Cambridgeshire. Let us all hope we have some decent fishing conditions for this coming season to make it worth your while. Fly tying involves the ‘dressing’ of a fishing hook to create an artificial fly, which is then used by anglers at the end of a rod and line to catch fish. It’s a little-known part of Ireland’s heritage but many angling shops in Ireland in the late 1800s and early 1900s employed ‘fly dressers.’ Some were considered masters of their craft, thanks to their skills, creativity and the traditional methods that they used.

Salmon Fishing Forum

First of all after reading the June reports in the latest T&S I find it almost impossible to comprehend even with low water that a river like the Dovey had barely nothing to report in June A month that all over the U.K. would see fish well spread out by then and in the case of the Dovey the catches were too innumerable to mention anything less than three pounds

In July, we arrived in Mayo to be greeted by a falling flood, cloud cover and wind, i.e. conditions to die for and great for grilse in the Lough systems of that county. A fortnight later, two of us had one 3lb grilse to show for our efforts. There have been many blank days on the Ridge Pool and coincidentally, the webcam has been out of action since early July. IFI appear to be in denial and continue to pen fishing reports that make everything sound rosey.

Of the rivers I’ve fished, the Dovey is probably my favourite for classic night fishing. Proper big holding pools on the lower river and well managed and run fishery. What would happen if I posted 'lines for sale' on classifieds here, and started a thread on the salmon forum called 'lines available on fff' with a link to the post on here?" Ayrshire, South West England, Northern Ireland, Tyne, Findhorn, Eden, Conwy, Ness, Brora, Don, Annan, Whiteadder, Nith, Wye, North and South Esk (Angus), Leven, Lochygave it a couple of hours either side of high. not expecting much due to the ground swell but had bites on every cast from whiting and dogs. maybe other things too but that's what i landed. The Yorkshire Esk is a river known for its sea trout and has the same run of large fish that you can expect on the Wear and other East Coast rivers. And yet the Angling reports from that river have usually been about fish caught on the mepps as I believe that river has a muddy colour that only in really low water has the clarity to fish the fly at night. It’s quite interesting to see forum members names who no longer use this forum. When it was in its prime the forum had more information than most could use 🤣. Very few people are fishing the Wye on the basis that they have a good chance of a fish for the effort they put in. Very very few folk.

Not sure that 'magazine' really does it justice, possibly better described as a collection of fly fishing short stories in a quality A4 book format? Drop by and have a chat, maybe have a cast with the latest S-glass rods (perfect for huge predators or delicate dry-fly presentations)? Or just cuddle up with a carp & chill out with some awesome fishing movies😎 These days on the bottom part of the Wye we have to fish hard, really hard from March until June to get the best out of the fishing we have left. After June the last few years have told us that we do not have the wet stuff to fish in. was a good summer for grilse on Lewis and Harris. Good water when the fish arrived, and a good run of grilse from the end of May until in to August. So I’d still like to say the Dovey but from what I can gather and have noticed for the past five years is that the river Spey has so many large accidentally caught sea trout from May onwards and still seems to have good night fishing in June for those who still take a week on Grantown, that I’m inclined to think it may be the Spey. Excellent read on a cold Januarys morning here in Scotland as we await daylight and the minuscule of warmth. Wild salmon populations in both the Atlantic and Pacific basins have declined dramatically over the last century and many populations are at imminent risk of extinction. The World Salmon Forum (WSF) brings together a coalition of scientists, advocates, and foundations dedicated to sustaining wild salmon. WSF will challenge the way in which salmon are managed and investigate the science required to underpin effective management.
